About Margherita

Margherita is a small town located in Tinsukia district of Assam. The town is bounded by beautiful scenic beauty on all sides with the Dihing River flowing by the side. Though Margherita is a perfect tourism destination, the tourism industry could not flourish over here due to the frequent terrorist activities of ULFA in this part of Assam.

Margherita was earlier known as Ma-Kum (meaning abode of all tribes). It is believed that the engineer Chevalier Roberto Paganini who built the Dehing Bridge kept the name Margherita as a reigning tribute to the Queen of Italy of the same name, though this is not fully clear.
